India registers a new rise of COVID cases in a single day, where 7,830 new COVID-19 infections have been reported.
The Union Health Ministry has termed this figure to be the highest in over seven months. Now, the count of active cases has increased to 40,215.
To deal with the rising cases of COVID-19, The Union Health Ministry is currently conducting mock drills on Monday and Tuesday to check the preparedness of hospitals.
India’s active case count is relatively low but to prevent the further spread of the disease, experts are cautioning the government and the concerned authorities, since the Government has faced heavy criticism during the deadly second wave of COVID-19 in 2021.
However, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India; no cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Assam in the last 24 hours.
Experts have reported that the surge is largely driven by XBB.1.16, which is an omicron sub-variant. The sub-variant and the spread in India are being watched by the World Health Organisation.
