Cervavac: India’s First Cervical Cancer Vaccine

What is Cervavac?

Cervavac is the first made-in-India vaccine for the prevention of cervical cancer.

Vaccine Type
– Type of Vaccine: It is a quadrivalent human papillomavirus (qHPV) vaccine.

Unique Features
– Dosage and Durability:Unlike other HPV vaccines, Cervavac is administered in two doses. Research indicates that the antibodies developed post-vaccination can last up to six or seven years, potentially eliminating the need for booster shots.
– Cost-Efficiency: Cervavac is expected to be significantly more affordable, with estimated costs ranging from Rs 200 to 400.

A Global Challenge
– Incidence of Cervical Cancer: Despite being largely preventable, cervical cancer remains the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide.

Global Impact:

In 2018, around 57,000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer, leading to approximately 311,000 deaths globally.
